This wise Scripture puts into perspective the much often asked question of wealth versus wisdom – which one should one choose? The conventional approach to the question will be to choose wisdom and discard money because money is earthly and carnal! This Scripture begins with the recognition that wisdom and money are needed both in life and to help us stay alive. We don’t pitch one against the other because they are synergistic. The Book of Proverbs on numerous occasions declare that wisdom brings wealth and honour! Hence, wisdom is better in that way since money is only a resource and a by-product of wisdom. Therefore, seek wisdom not money, for those who find wisdom will have both life and money.

Pendekatan lazim untuk soalan ini adalah memilih hikmat dan menyingkirkan wang kerana wang adalah duniawi dan kedagingan! Firman Tuhan ini bermula dengan pengiktirafan bahawa hikmat dan wang diperlukan dalam kehidupan untuk kelangsungan hidup. Hikmat dan wang tidak menentang satu sama lain malah bersinergi (bekerjasama). Kitab Amsal beberapa kali menyatakan bahawa hikmat membawa kekayaan dan kehormatan! Oleh itu, hikmat lebih baik kerana wang hanyalah sumber dan produk sampingan daripada hikmat. Oleh itu, carilah hikmat berbanding wang, kerana mereka yang menemukan hikmat akan memiliki hidup dan wang.
