Nehemiah spoke this declaration against the troublemakers. Conversely, this same proclamation contains a prophetic promise for the builders of God’s city. The same is true for us today who are counted as builders of God’s Church. Hebrews tells us of a futuristic city.

Hebrews 13:14
Here we do not have a city that lasts. But we are looking for the city that is going to come.

John saw “10b the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 12 Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. (Revelation 21:10b,12,14)

Nehemiah told his people that when they shall arise and build, they shall have heritage, rights, and a memorial in Jerusalem. This is why we want to be counted as workers in God’s building business!

Like Nehemiah, the Holy Spirit is calling out, “Come, let us build.” May we respond by saying to God, “We shall rise up and build.”
