• Every year, each man would give a third of a shekel to the Temple to help with the expenses of the House of God. (Verse 32-34). Originally, it was half a shekel for the temple (Exodus 30:31) but due to the distressing economic conditions, a third of shekel was required. 
• They will bring the firstfruits of their harvest and herds to God. (Verses 35-37)
• They will bring their tithes to the Levites. (Verse 37-38)

Everyone – the poor and the rich – are to give to the house of God. The benefits of such responsibility go above and beyond the monetary value.

First, when we give, we become the living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God (Romans 12:1). A wise rabbi said, “the greatness of such giving is that we could have purchased necessities of life with this money, but instead we are giving our soul’s life to God” (Lubavitcher Rebbe’s article on “Half A Shekel”). Giving your money into the house of God is literally giving your life to God.

Second, the third of a shekel would not cover any purchase of sacrifices required daily for temple worship. But it is important because it helps us to obey the second commandment which is to love your neighbour as yourself. Ephesians 4:16 reminds us that we are members of the body of Christ. Alone as a passive segregated individual, you are not connected. You are extremely limited. But when each member does his or her part, acting interdependently
with each other, we grow and build the body. 

Your “third of a shekel”, firstfruits, and tithes are vital, first to yourself and also to the church of Jesus Christ. “We will not neglect the house of our God.” (Nehemiah 10:39)

• 每年，每个男人都要向圣殿献上三分之一舍客勒，以帮助支付神的殿的经费。（32-34 节）起初，献给圣殿的是半舍客勒（出埃及记 30:31），但由于当时经济状况艰难，后来改为三分之一舍客勒。

首先，当我们奉献时，我们就成了活祭，是圣洁的，蒙神悦纳（罗马书 12:1）。一位睿智的拉比说：“这种奉献的伟大之处在于，我们本可以用这些钱购买生活必需品，但我们却将自己的灵魂献给了神” （卢巴维奇拉比 “Lubavitcher Rebbe” 关于“半舍客勒” 的文章）。将你的钱财奉献给神的殿，实际上就是将你的生命献给神。

其次，三分之一舍客勒不足以购买圣殿每日所需的祭品。但这很重要，因为它帮助我们遵守第二条诫命——爱人如己。以弗所书 4:16 提醒我们，我们是基督身体的肢体。若你孤立无援，与基督隔绝，你便无法与祂连接，你的能力也极其有限。但当每个肢体都尽自己的本分，彼此依存时，我们就能成长，并建立基督的身体。

你的 “三分之一舍客勒”、初熟之物和十一奉献至关重要，首先是为了你自己，其次是为了耶稣基督的教会。 ”我们决不会疏忽供应我们神的殿。” （尼希米记 10:39）

• Setiap tahun, setiap orang akan memberikan sepertiga syikal kepada Bait Suci untuk membantu perbelanjaan Rumah Tuhan. (Ayat 32-34). Pada asalnya, ia adalah setengah syikal untuk bait suci (Keluaran 30:13), namun disebabkan oleh keadaan ekonomi yang sukar, hanya satu pertiga syikal yang dikenakan.
• Mereka akan membawa hasil pertama daripada tuaian dan ternakan mereka kepada Tuhan. (Ayat 35-37)
• Mereka akan membawa persepuluhan mereka kepada orang Lewi. (Ayat 37-38)

Setiap orang – yang miskin mahupun yang kaya – hendaklah memberi kepada rumah Tuhan. Manfaat daripada tanggungjawab sedemikian melangkaui nilai wang.

Pertama, apabila kita memberi, kita menjadi korban yang hidup, kudus, dan berkenan kepada Tuhan (Roma 12:1). Seorang rabbi yang bijaksana pernah berkata, “pemberian mulia sedemikian adalah kerana kita sebenarnya boleh menggunakan wang ini untuk membeli keperluan hidup, tetapi sebaliknya kita menyerahkan kehidupan jiwa kita kepada Tuhan” (Artikel Lubavitcher Rebbe bertajuk “Half A Shekel”). Memberikan wang anda ke dalam rumah Tuhan sebenarnya adalah menyerahkan nyawa anda kepada Tuhan.

Kedua, sepertiga syikal itu tidak akan cukup untuk menampung pembelian korban yang diperlukan setiap hari untuk penyembahan di bait suci. Namun ia sangat penting kerana membantu kita mematuhi hukum yang kedua iaitu mengasihi sesama manusia seperti diri sendiri. Efesus 4:16 mengingatkan kita bahawa kita adalah anggota tubuh Kristus. Bersendirian secara pasif, anda tidak akan terhubung. Anda sangat terhad. Namun apabila setiap anggota memainkan peranan masing-masing, bertindak secara saling bergantung antara satu sama lain, kita bertumbuh dan membina tubuh itu.

“Sepertiga syikal”, hasil pertama, dan persepuluhan anda adalah sangat penting, terutamanya kepada diri anda sendiri dan juga kepada gereja Yesus Kristus. “Kami tidak akan mengabaikan rumah Tuhan kami.”  (Nehemia 10:39)
