The next project God gave was the rebuilding of Israel’s spiritual life. The revival began with the Word and Worship, followed by their commitment to the House of God. The Temple was where God chose to be with His people. The House of God kept them connected to God. Their relationship with God was closely associated with their relationship with the House of God. This was indicated in Nehemiah 10:28-39. The people made an oath to not neglect the House of God.
King David made the Temple his home. He said, “I will live in the Lord’s house for as long as I live” (Psalm 23:6b). The zeal for the house of God was his consuming priority. Psalm 69:9a confirms it (“Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up”).
Our commitment to the House reveals our relationship with God. To neglect the House of God was to neglect God.
Often, the start of drifting away from God begins with gradual absence from church. Weekly worship in the church is essentially good for us. The Word, the worship, the fellowship reset our moral compass to Christ. True worshippers sharpen their mental, emotional, and spiritual faculties for work.
Our Lord Jesus was zealous for the Temple (John 2:16-17).
