The act of consecration is to acknowledge something as specially set apart for God’s service and glory. Nehemiah and Eliashib knew that the building of these walls and gates were spiritual work containing an overarching higher plan and purpose. They did the first thing right – place a seal of divine possession on these gates and walls. This mark of consecration tells physical and spiritual powers that all of these belong to the LORD. This is a special work of God and for God.

Herein is a good secret to success in life – to do everything as if doing it for the LORD. “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17)

The high priest and the other priests’ work was mentioned first. Nehemiah collaborates first with the spiritual leadership as he recognizes the spiritual aspect of the work. That was why they consecrated everything to God.

May we too have the high spiritual view in everything we do and consecrate ourselves to God.
